Explore the vast Tarangire, famous for its elephant, lion, and leopard populations. Then, travel into the world's largest unfilled collapsed volcano—the Ngorongoro Crater reserve—with over 25,000 large animals, including the endangered black rhinoceros, buffalo, and hippopotamus. This trip is perfect before or after your Kilimanjaro trek.
You will be picked up at your hotel in Moshi/Arusha at 7:00 AM before making your way to the gates of Tarangire National Park. This is where you will begin your tour, which is famous for its spectacular large animal population, as well as the largest concentration of Elephants in the country. Your accommodation will be in a tented camp for the evening, and all food is provided.
Today, you’ll rise early in the morning to descend the 600m high walls to the floor of the crater and get up close with one of Africa's seven natural wonders! Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is considered one of the most beautiful and unique places in Africa. Here, you will find a haven of African wildlife, and you might also be lucky enough to witness the endangered Rhino!
Later, proceed to Kilimanjaro airport for drop off!

All of the Skyhook Kilimanjaro trips have a final day as a 'departure day'. Unless you want a free day between Kilimanjaro and safari (in which case you will need to book an extra night accommodation at an extra expense) you can start your safari on the final day of your Kilimanjaro trip. Eg. You have booked a 7-Day Machame Trek. You will start your safari on the same date as 'Day 9' of your Kilimanjaro trip. You can send us a message before booking to help you with planning. This means you will be picked up from Weru Weru River Lodge first thing in the morning the day after you finish hiking. If it is very early, you can usually ask the lodge to pack you a box-breakfast.
We recommend you check with your travel doctor, and you can find more advice at http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/home.aspx.
The safari is family-friendly, with a minimum age of 6 years.
Absolutely - just let us know which dates you want to go, and a member of our team will make all the arrangements for you.
Start: You will be collected from your hotel in Moshi at 7:00 AM on day 1 of your itinerary. End: You will be dropped off in Moshi or Kilimanjaro Airport at 7:00 PM on day 2 of your itinerary.
The average temperature is 25C in the day and 15C in the morning/evenings. We recommend bringing a fleece and waterproof jacket, although you'll spend most of the safari within the 4x4s.
It can be generally hot during the day, so sunhats, suncream, and sunglasses are recommended. In the morning and evenings, it can be a little cooler, so pack a sweater, fleece or jacket.
Yes, just make sure you put your dietary requirements on your registration form which can be found at 'My Dashboard' on your Skyhook account.
The food is prepared by the accommodation provider during the safari. You can usually expect several choices for dinner and breakfast as well as a packed lunch (chicken, chips, wraps, cookies, juice, fruit etc.) to take with and eat in the park during the day. If you have dietary restrictions, please advise us beforehand by filling out the Trip Form. There are snack trucks at some of the picnic stops from which you can purchase ice cream, extra snacks and even coffee!
Many of the animals are completely habituated to vehicles and often walk right beside or between the Land Cruisers. Guides also communicate by radio to share interesting sightings. You are sure to get plenty of opportunities for good sightings and pictures! Note that in Tanzanian National Parks, safari vehicles may not leave the designated tracks or off-road to get closer to wildlife. This is an important law to protect the fauna and flora. Please always respect the rules of the park and listen to your guide's instructions.
You may want to bring a small amount of money for tips and any souvenirs.
You will be travelling with experienced and qualified guides, and this safari is very safe. However, it is important to abide by the rules set by the National Park and always follow the advice of your guides.
All trips on Skyhook are run by small, hand-picked local guiding companies. For this trip your guides run Nyange Adventures, based in Moshi Town.
By booking through Skyhook you'll be joining a small-group trip. This can make it nice and sociable (you'll be added to a group chat after booking), and guarantees great value for money!
