Discover Kenya's natural wonders by bike around three of the Great Rift Valley lakes, through seven National Parks and wildlife conservancies, into two tropical forests and over volcanoes. This trip includes 5 days of epic cycling on a combination of tarmac and off-road through some of Kenya's most iconic scenery.
After a leisurely morning; meet the team, prepare your bikes and have a final briefing over coffee. We depart from Brackenhurst Hotel on the edge of Nairobi. Cycling north the cityscape disappears it’s replaced with the beautiful tea and coffee estates of Kenya. Get an insight into one of Kenya’s largest agricultural industries. We stop for Lunch at a local waterfall before arriving in the afternoon at the edge of the Kireita Forest Reserve.
We will be camping at the Gatamaiyu Forest Campsite right on the edge of a beautiful forest.
A classic day of flow tracks, climbs, National parks and wild camping. We start off by climbing up through the Kireita forest reserve, protected as a major catchment for the Athi River.
This long climb will take a good portion of the morning and is one of the more challenging sections of the route. We reach Kijabe town, known in Kenya for its fantastic maintained single tracks and drop down into the Great Rift Valley. After wiggling our way down over 800 m of descent, we follow the floor of the Great Rift Valley North and into Kedong Ranch known for its abundance of Zebra and Antelope.
We then make our way into Sanctuary Farm one of our favourite campsites, known for its incredibly habituated wild animals. Situated on the banks of Lake Naivasha this is the perfect spot to unwind after the day.
After a morning coffee overlooking herds of Zebrah grazing we head west along the shores of Lake Naivasha and into Hells Gate National Park. Made famous by its inspiration for the scenery of the Lion King movie this incredible park will leave you breathless at its beauty. Our route takes us through the geothermal plants that provide part of Kenya’s green energy. Currently, 90% of Kenya’s energy is renewable.
Our trip continues north around the shores of Lake Naivasha until we reach Mt Eburru a complex of volcanoes with over 50 craters. This will be one of the toughest climbs of the trip, luckily our campsite is halfway up at a spectacular campsite on Loldia Conservancy and a chance to relax in the sauna.
Another world-class day as we continue the last part of the climb into the forest. As we enter the conservancy gate of the Eburru forest reserve the ancient forest explodes around us with the sounds of birds and bugs. This long-forgotten area of Kenya has been held in time with unused routes and magical views of the valley below.
After exiting the forest, we have a long descent of windy single-track footpaths through local villages all the way down to Soysambu Conservancy. Another hidden gem of this conservancy, it is situated on the shores of Lake Elmentita a world heritage site known for its abundant birdlife, especially flamingos and pelicans. We will camp next to the lake with the sounds of hyenas and lions lulling us to sleep.
Enjoy a relaxed morning and your last few hours in the saddle. We wiggle our way through Soysambu Conservancy and on towards Lake Nakuru National Park. As we reach the main gate of this National Park we transfer into Safari vehicles and drive to Lake Nakuru Lodge for a slap-up lunch. A well-deserved rest follows before we embark on a late afternoon game drive searching for Lion and Rhino as well as many other animals. Then a few drinks and a night in a comfy bed before our journey back home.
An early morning safari is definitely worthwhile to catch the sunrise and spot any remaining animals you have missed. It’s then back to the hotel for a large buffet breakfast before a last game drive as we head out of the park and back to Nairobi arriving in time for a late Lunch.
We will take you around the city in the afternoon for some shopping and a visit to the giraffe centre where you can hand-feed these magnificent animals. Then our last night together in the Boulevard Hotel.
After breakfast, its time to checkout and say farewell to your fellow travellers.
We hope you leave with some unforgettable memories!

The activity time each day varies, but for the most part, you will be riding your bike for most of the day. You therefore need good bike fitness and the ability to ride a bike. If you are a road biker or a mountain biker, this trip will be great for you. Although the distance is fairly short each day for a full day of riding, the riding in Kenya is hard, with off-road terrain, high altitude, sun and dust. So you will get a very good workout each day. If you are finding the distances easy each day, the bike guide will add on additional kilometres and loops to make the most out of your time in the saddle. We have also included plenty of time to stop, enjoy the views and take pictures with the animals.
It’s highly recommended you take out personal travel insurance. Travel cover protects you in the case of unforeseen circumstances including cancellations, injuries, equipment loss, flight changes, and other events that could negatively impact your trip. We suggest specialist adventure travel insurers, Rise & Shield. They cover 100s of activities and are easy to deal with if you need to make a claim. They also cover unique scenarios, like trekking at altitude or emergency evacuation in hard-to-reach places, that ordinary travel insurance doesn’t cover.

It really depends on the time of year. Kenya is known for its temperate climate, with temperatures in the high 20s. November and April/ May are our rainy months, so best to avoid those. It can get hot in the day, so where light clothing and plenty of sunscreen. In the evenings it gets a little chilly, so please bring a jumper and some trousers.
In Kenya, we use Kenyan shillings. There are multiple ATMS around to withdraw cash from. If you want to bring cash, you can bring USD, GBP or Euro, which can be exchanged at the airport on arrival. Most things are included in this itineary, and most places you can pay with a card if it is not included. However it can be nice to have extra cash for a cold soda on the road, curio shopping or as a tip to your guide and driver.
We will provide a large tent, which can be either single or shared, a mattress, pillow, fleece liner and sleeping bag.
