We also visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square, which is a collection of pagoda and shikhara – style temples grouped around a fifty-five window palace of brick and wood. The attraction of the Bhaktapur Durbar Square are the Lion gate, the Golden gate, the Palace of fifty-five windows, art galleries, the Statue of King Bhupatindra Malla.

For Kathmandu – Lukla flight: Wake up around 5 to 6 am and drive to the domestic airport in Kathmandu for about 30 minutes and fly to Lukla (35 minutes). Applicable for the remaining months, except peak trekking months.
Helicopter Option: Instead of a regular plane flight, you have an option to take a shared helicopter flight (it’s not private chartered, so the cost is divided among the passengers) between Kathmandu and Lukla at USD 250 per person extra for one way in addition to the trip price. This cost is available only for those who do advance booking of the helicopter flight at least one week before the trip starts. The helicopter can take 5 passengers. Your guide will inform you about the time to leave for the airport one day before. The helicopter flights are scheduled from 6 AM to 1 PM. From the Kathmandu airport, you will reach Lukla within 40 to 60 mins depending upon the weather. This is a great option as you won’t have to worry about the Kathmandu to Manthali drive which starts around 2:30 AM. Plus the helicopters can fly in visibility as low as 1,500 meters when the weather isn’t favorable for the planes which need the visibility of 5,000 or more meters to fly.
Flight to Tenzing-Hillary Airport usually takes place early in the morning. We suggest you to make all the sorting and packing the day before, so there is no rush on Day 3. Once you reach Lukla, have your breakfast while our guide will make an arrangement of porters. We assign one porter to every two clients. Begin the trek by descending towards the Dudh Kosi River where you join the main trail to Namche Bazaar, located just above Chaunikharka (2,713 m). The walking is easy and after passing through the small village of Ghat (2,550 m), it is a short walk to Phakding.
Read: For peak trekking months (March, April, May, October and November), the current Lukla flight operation to and from Manthali airport that was started from the trekking season of March 2019, will continue for the upcoming years. This means you need to wake up early, around 2:30 am to reach Manthali and catch your early morning Lukla flight. In such cases, the hotel you are staying will provide the packed breakfast. Otherwise, except peak season, you can fly to Lukla directly from Kathmandu airport.

We will trek a short distance to a museum that is celebrated for its exhibits of the traditional customs of the Sherpa people. We will also hike up the Syangboche Airport and the Everest View Hotel, one of the highest-placed hotels in the world. From this point, we can see rewarding views of the Himalayas including Mt Everest.

The views of Khumbi La and Taboche are magnificent throughout the day. We should dress warmly because cold wind blows throughout the trail. In the middle of the trek, there are two trails which divides into lower and upper trail. To continue our journey, we take left. In Phorste Thanga there are few houses and lodges. After some hours of walking we reach our today’s destination Tengboche. It is inhabited by Sherpa’s where their main source of income comes from tourism. There is an important and largest Buddhist Monastery, Tengboche Monastery where Ama Dablan lies behind.
Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
After breakfast we start our trek towards Dingboche. Today’s trek covers 9.1Km and its easy trail with going downhill on a fairly wide path covered with beautiful rhododendron trees. After few hours of walk and crossing bridge over Imja River, it takes us to Pangboche. In the whole trek, we can see wide open areas where trekkers can view more beautiful landscapes. Walking trail above Pangboche, we get a magnificent view of Himalayas and Pangboche Monastery. We move ahead towards the Imja valley and finally we reach Dingboche.
Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Dingboche is a popular stop for trekkers and climbers headed to Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam or Imja Tse. It is a Sherpa village. According to the 2011 census, its population was around 200. There is also a helicopter landing pad with internet café (using satellite technology) and one of the world’s highest billiard parlors.
One can see great view of many Himalayas from Nagarjung Hill which may take some hour of hike from Dingboche.

Today, trail is mostly upwards and downwards. Along the trail, you can see several traditional farms and fences built from local stones. Then we pass through Imja Khola valley, Bibre (which is a yak herdsman place). After half an hour walk, we reach to Chhukung where we will have lunch and we move towards Chhukung Ri Peak which may take around 4-5 hours. For beginner’s, climbing Chhukung Ri is the best alternative because it’s not as much technically challenging as others. From the top we can see fantastic view of Ama Dablam and Amphu Labcha peaks. Then we return to Chhukung village for overnight.
Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Today we climb about 8 hours to reach the top of Kongma La pass. There are two trails for Kongma La pass; one is to the northwest of Chhukung over the Nuptse Glacier moraines and other one is back to Bibre and trek on the trail above the Niyang Khola. As there aren’t any hotels, shops and tea houses, we carry our own packed foods and water. In the top of Kongma La pass we can see beautiful Buddhist prayer flags. By turning north of Khumbu Glacier, we reach Lobuche.
Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included (packed lunch on this day).
Today the trail is of average level up to Gorak Shep. Before heading off to Everest Base Camp, we take lunch and rest at Gorak Shep which takes around 2 hours. If the weather is good, we will be able to see beautiful Himalaya’s all-round. Then we head towards Everest Base Camp. Everest Base Camp is the closest you can get to Mt. Everest without mountaineering equipment and also highest altitude that most will reach without a climbing permit. The view of the Khumbu Icefall from Base Camp is spectacular. The earthquake which occurred on 25th April 2015 caused some damage on the route of the Everest Base Camp. We return back to Gorak Shep for the night.
Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
This will be one of the most difficult yet rewarding day of the trek. Most of this day is spent climbing Mt. Kala Patthar at 5,555 m. From Mt. Kala Patthar one can see the superlative views of Everest. After spending some time in Kala Patthar we move downwards toward Lobuche. It is a small village surrounded by Rocky Mountains and Himalayas. There are mostly old ancient type of lodges but in recent years more facilitated lodges have been opened where some of them provide internet as well as oxygen serves.
Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
From Lobuche we start to walk downwards where after few hours, trail divides into two and we take right side for Dzongla. We can see stupa and tombstones in the distance. After that we trek upwards where we can see Chola Tsho Lake nearby. We continue to trek by crossing Chola Khola on a bridge before reaching Dzongla.
Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Today we have to start our trek before 4-5 am so we can cross Cho La pass before mid-day and re-assess the hike when the weather turns bad. Today the route maybe little difficult due to high altitude and steeply loose rock. Snow may cause some problem while crossing Cho La pass and rock fall can also be the problem although weather is good. As a result you can see magnificent view from the top of Cho La Pass then we will descend to our destination, Gokyo (4,790 m). We have to cross Khara, Pangka, and Ngozumpa glacier (which is the longest glacier in Nepal). We can see the beautiful view of Kantaga and big Mountain Cho-oyu. There are series of six lakes where third one is the Gokyo Lake. There is a small village near the Gokyo Lake where we will stay 2 nights as we will have sightseeing and hiking trip around Gokyo.
Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Early in the morning, we have a steep climb up to the top of Gokyo Ri at an elevation of 5,483 m. There are ample rewards for those who attempt this trip. You get stunning views of the super Gokyo valley, the massive Ngozumpa glacier and an incredible panoramic view of the whole Khumbu Himalayas, including the giants; Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho-Oyu and Gychung Kang.
Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Today we start our trek in the morning. Our trek for today is long but on the normal trail. We can see amazing view of Mt. Everest from the top of the Renjo pass. Then we descend down to Lunden for our today’s final destination.
Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
We start our trek after breakfast. Today, the trail will mostly descend down to to Thame. While on the trail we can see amazing snow peaks. About 150 meters above Thame, there is a Thame Monastery, a picturesque monastery set among the many homes of monks and lay people. It resides on the side of a hill overlooking the valley. This is the site for the spring celebration of the Mani Rimdu festival, held about the middle of May each year.
Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Thame is a traditional Sherpa village that has escaped the crowds trekking to Everest and has one of the oldest monasteries in the region. The village is notably the hometown of Apa Sherpa who has made it to the summit of Everest 21 times! The walk itself is peaceful with excellent views of the mountains as it winds in and out of the forest on the side of the canyon. This day, we continue our journey walking down the hill from Thame. The trek will be easy and short and the final destination for the day and the trip will be at Namche Bazar.
Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Finally we return back to Lukla where the trek began, which will seem like ages ago. It will give you time to reflect on the trek also giving you time to explore the town.

You might want to stay a little more in Nepal. If you are looking for extending your trip, there are options such as a visit to Chitwan National Park, known for wildlife viewing and to Pokhara, considered one of the most beautiful cities of Nepal. You can also extend your trip to Tibet, India or Bhutan.
Read: During the peak trekking months (March, April, May, October and November), the ongoing flight operation to and from Manthali airport that was started from the trekking season of March 2019, will continue in the forthcoming years. Kathmandu can be reached within 4 to 6 hour drive from Manthali. Otherwise, except peak season, you can fly to Lukla directly from Kathmandu airport.

This trek is suitable for average people who are moderately fit, thus no previous experience is required. Some physical fitness programs such as running, swimming, hiking is recommended before you embark on your journey. Whilst on the trek, it is common to experience some discomfort before being fully acclimatized.
The trek along the three high elevation passes is considered to be a little challenging due to high altitude and changing weather conditions. If heavy snow fall occurs, the possibility of crossing the passes is not possible. The guide will let you know if the trek along the high passes is appropriate if such condition occurs. Especially in the months of November to January, there is high probability of heavy snowfalls thus you should be prepared for such unpredictable weather challenges. Crampons are recommended for an easy walk on the snow.
To prepare for a strenuous trek like this you should begin training at least two to three months before your departure. As a guideline, an hour of aerobic exercise three to four times per week would be considered a minimum requirement. The best preparation is bushwalking involving relatively steep ascents and descents. If you can manage a couple of valley floor to ridgeline ascents per comfortable and able to enjoy the trek to the fullest. They are physically strong, sharp-witted and have an incredibly positive attitude towards a life that we would consider extremely tough. There is something about a trek in the Himalaya that draws you back time and time again. For keen walkers it is a paradise and even avowed non-walkers find that one foot just seems to follow the other, drawn by the appeal of what lies beyond.

Yes, our airport representative will be there to greet you at the airport. S/he will be displaying an Ace the Himalaya sign board outside the airport terminal. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel by our tourist vehicle.
Most of the tea houses do have western style flushing toilet however in higher elevation you could find the squat toilets made of either a ceramic basin on the ground or few planks precariously positioned over a hole in the ground which is always outside of the room.
Please bring a copy of your travel insurance, a copy of your passport and 3 photos (passport size) with you for your trip to Nepal. You would need photos for permits.
We use double or twin styled rooms at three star hotels in Kathmandu with breakfast included. Along the trekking routes, teahouses/lodges generally provide basic clean facilities with a mattress and a quilt or blanket. The nights prior to the day of trekking to the three high elevation passes, the stay will be in a guesthouse providing minimal facilities. This is because the high passes are located at remote areas thus providing basic accommodation. We can also offer you Ace the Himalaya sleeping bags if needed (to be returned after the trip) but it is a good idea to always have your own sleeping equipment. The lodges in trekking routes usually provide single and double rooms, or occasionally a dormitory. At times when possible, dining will be around a bon fire. In teahouses, food will be prepared in the kitchen, which you should not enter without permission.
At most cases you can use the toilet provided by the tea houses/lodges on the trail but normally in case of emergency, you just do toilet along the trail wherever you find privacy.
Substituting the accommodation or swapping from mountain guest house to Kathmandu is NOT possible. We only provide four nights’ accommodation in Kathmandu included in the package.
In case of flight cancellation or early arrival to Kathmandu due to any sickness in the mountain or any of your own personal reason or due to bad weather and you are unable to continue the trek, you will need an extra night accommodation/s in Kathmandu. We can make these arrangements for a supplemental charge.
All the guest houses sell the toilet paper so you can buy it there itself. Hand sanitizer and a towel you must bring your own.
During the trek, we will try our best but normally the lodges have twin sharing and dormitory styled room instead of a single room. The lodges will provide a private room for one person when the room is free and additional cost is not required.
In Kathmandu, USD 45 Per Room per Night would be added as a single supplement fee. The single supplements are always guaranteed in Kathmandu but not in the mountain especially during the peak time.
Most teahouses (lodges) in Everest region trails cook a delicious range of mostly vegetarian fare. Pasta, tuna bakes, noodles, potatoes, eggs, daal bhat(rice and lentils), bread, soup, fresh vegetables (variety depends on the season) and even some desserts like apple pies, pancakes, and some interesting attempts at custard. You will find a lot of garlic on the menu because it assists with acclimatization – eat some every day. In many larger villages you may find some meat items on the menu. You can always get hot chocolate, tea, and hot lemon drinks, as well as soft drinks, and treats like chocolate and crisps.
Each day dinner and breakfast will be at a lodge you’ll stay at while for the lunch you would be stopping by on the way where you can order your meals as per your choice. Guide will help you to stop by at best possible places to eat.
No problem at all because mostly, the lodges serve the vegetarian meals. We always recommend our clients to eat vegetarian meals to avoid the food poisoning, eating heavy meals and non- vegetarian meals at the high altitude is not really safe for the stomach.
YES, the food is very safe during the trekking and we recommend you to eat the vegetarian and local food. Please follow the suggestion of our guide on the trek.
At the lower altitude like Lukla, Phakding, Namche the guesthouses provide the facilities of hot shower.
And in rest of the places (at higher elevation), warm water in the bucket will be provided for shower.
For all above showers, it would cost you extra about USD 3-4 per shower. The higher you go the hot shower would be expensive.
Bottled water is easily available at the lodges and teahouses. You can buy bottled water at the cost of USD 2 at lower elevations to USD 4 to higher elevation per littler. More higher you go it would be expensive.
If you are planning to drink normal water, purifying water with any sort of purification tablets or drop is must.
One can purchase purification tablets or iodine in Kathmandu, Lukla or Namche.
It depends on your spending habits. Generally, in Kathmandu, you can allocate USD 10 to USD 15 for a lunch and a dinner. USD 15 to USD 18 per person a day will be enough to buy bottles of water, chocolates, pay for the hot shower and a few drinks during the trekking. Please note, higher you go the things would be expensive especially at higher altitude; all the goods are supplied either by helicopter, horse, mules or porters therefore the things are expensive.
During the trekking period, cash transaction is highly recommended. Please change the currency in local Nepali Rupees before you go to the mountains.
Especially in the Everest trail, ATM would be available only in Namche and relying on it is not a better idea as you never know when things stops working. Also if you try to exchange your foreign currency there you would be getting very less exchange rates. So changing money from Kathmandu and taking Nepalese cash is a wise idea, which we too recommend.
Depending on the nature of the travel, the transportation to and from the destination varies from domestic flights to vehicular transportation to even piggyback rides on mules and yaks. We provide you only those options, which enhance your local experience while allowing you to travel comfortably and efficiently. We use private tourist vehicles for sightseeing, city tours and pickups. Depending on the group size we use cars, minibus, vans or alternatively 4WD SUVs, more maneuverable in travelling along the narrow and bumpy roads of Nepal. All the vehicles are usually air-conditioned unless we are travelling in cooler areas.
For domestic flights (Kathmandu – Lukla – Kathmandu), we use Tara Air, Summit Air, Sita Air; all popular domestic airlines.
Well, it depends, and cannot be ensured ahead in peak trekking season, especially spring (March, April, May) and fall (September, October, November). Some airlines operate their first few flights in the early morning (6 to 7:30 am) directly from Kathmandu to Lukla. If it gets cancelled, there is less likely to reschedule your flight the next day due to limited number of flight operations from Kathmandu to Lukla. So, you will be flying to Lukla from Manthali airport. In general, it takes about 20 minutes to reach Lukla from Manthali airport.
However, there is an option to take a shared helicopter (private charter is also available and is expensive). It will cost you USD 500 per person extra for both ways (USD 250 per person for one way) in addition to the trip price.
On the other hand, besides peak trekking season, spring and fall, most airlines will operate their flight to Lukla from Kathmandu directly. You don’t have to get to Manthali to catch your Lukla flight.
You can fly back to Kathmandu directly from Lukla during monsoon (June, July, and August) and winter (December, January, February). These two seasons are considered off trekking time, and Lukla flight operates to and from Kathmandu during those times.
Similarly, during peak trekking season, spring (March, April, May), and fall (September, October, November), the Lukla flights operate directly to Manthali airport. During those times, there may be some last flights returning back to Kathmandu from Lukla directly under favorable weather conditions. Usually, the flight takes place after 11 am, and depends upon available landing slots in Kathmandu. But these aren’t guaranteed earlier. As the best available options, we recommend you to fly Manthali from Lukla in peak season.
However, there is an option to take a shared helicopter (private charter is also available and is expensive). It will cost you USD 500 per person extra for both ways (USD 250 per person for one way) in addition to the trip price. This cost is available only for those who do advance booking of the helicopter flight at least one week before the trip starts. The helicopter can take 5 passengers. Your guide will inform you about the time to leave for the airport one day before. The helicopter flights are scheduled from 6 AM to 1 PM. From the Lukla airport, you will reach Kathmandu within 40 to 60 mins depending upon the weather. This is a great option as you won’t have to worry about the Manthali to Kathmandu drive which takes around 4 to 6 hours depending on the traffic. Plus, the helicopters can fly in visibility as low as 1,500 meters when the weather isn’t favorable for the planes which need the visibility of 5,000 or more meters to fly.
The primary modes of air transport in mountain region are Twin Otter and Dornier. Sometimes, due to bad weather conditions or other technical issues, flights may get cancelled or delayed to and from Lukla. In this case, we can rebook your flight for the next day. We highly recommend you to prepare ahead for unforeseen circumstances (flight delay, bad weather) and schedule a couple of extra days for the trek.
Other possible option is to charter a private full-reserved helicopter to ensure you don’t miss deadline for the trek or your international flight. The helicopter takes 5 passengers at a time, and the cost of trekking guide should be shared by trekkers respectively.
The private helicopter charter between Kathmandu and Lukla will cost you extra USD 2,500 to reserve a private helicopter in addition to the domestic flight airfare. If you want to take a helicopter on a sharing basis, it will cost you USD 500 per person. This price is applicable during emergencies or when you have given us a notice in less than 24 hours. We will try to find a cheaper option but the average rate for quick arrangement of helicopter is USD 500 per person. Please note that when you request for a helicopter in a short time (i.e. less than 24 hours) for any reason except emergencies, you will have to be in queue to use the helicopter flight. There are a limited number of helicopters and they are used in a wide range of activities in the mountains. So, please keep in mind you won’t be able to fly at your requested time quickly if you book late. The earlier you book, the earlier and on time you can use the helicopter.
In case of emergency cancellation of flights due to weather condition at Lukla or in Kathmandu we recommend our clients to wait for some time for the weather to clear out. In case the weather fails to clear out and the flights are not likely to take place then in such cases we recommend to go for a helicopter charter. This facility can be provided if our clients are agreeing to pay the extra charges applicable for the heli ride. The helicopter takes 4 to 6 passengers at a time and the cost can be shared amongst the passengers. The cost must be paid by the participant, which can later be submitted for reimbursement through travel insurance company. We can help you with the necessary documents for a claim.
The cost of the helicopter is payable directly to our Kathmandu office in the event that this service is utilized. US cash, or credit cards (Visa Cards, Master Cards, American Express only) are accepted. You will be given a receipt upon payment so that you may claim the amount from your travel insurance. The extra charges incurred are approximately $2,500 to $3,000 USD per helicopter (minimum USD 500 to maximum USD 3,000 per person) would be applicable to you for the helicopter charter. Usually the helicopter takes only 4 to 6 passengers at a time. Therefore whatever the cost of helicopter is, the price is divided among the group members. Any card payment requires 4% bank fee while doing the transaction, which is taken by bank itself. (Ace doesn’t own any of those 4% amount)
Yes, you need to book your own International flights. We are a local agent and it would cost you significantly higher to book through us. Please find more information in the International Flight page.
The trip will be confirmed only when we receive the completed final booking form and 30% deposit payment. You can pay the rest of the balance when you arrive in Kathmandu by USD Cash, Credit cards (Master, Visa and American Express) any card payment requires 4% bank fee while doing the transaction, which is taken by bank itself. (Ace doesn’t own any of those 4% amount)
One of the most unpredictable elements of the Everest region
is the weather. If you’re not properly prepared for the twists, turns and
volatility of the conditions that can occur in this breathtaking region, you
might find yourself in an uncomfortable and unpleasant situation. Here are some
weather basics to help ensure that you come to the Himalayas as well equipped
and prepared to face anything.
Generally speaking, the nights are much cooler than the
daytime hours in the Everest region. Many first-time trekkers are surprised to
learn about the incredible range that may occur in a given day. During the day,
the thermometer could reach temps as high as 25 degrees C (77 Degrees F), only
to dip down as low as -20 degrees C (-4 Degrees F) in less than 24 hours. While
there’s no way to know exactly what each day in the mountains will bring, the
weather and temperature ranges tend to be somewhat predictable based on the
month and season.
Spring – March / April / May / June
Spring happens to be one of the best times of the year to
visit the Everest region, although because of this, it can become somewhat
crowded. One can meet many other Everest climbers during this season and base
camp is full of tents. The beautiful clear blue sky can be seen and the many different
species of flower are visible in the lower altitude.
During springtime, the average temperature is 20 degrees C
(68 Degrees F), with a maximum of 25 degrees C (77 Degrees F), during sunny
days and a minimum of -15 degrees C (5 Degrees F), in the morning and at night
for areas above 4000 meters.
July / August Through Mid-September is Monsoon Season
This season is not really recommended to travel as it rains
in the lower altitudes, below 3500 meters. In areas above 4000 meters, it rains
sometimes and although it is also sometimes dry, very few people travel during
this season. There are positive sides of trekking during the monsoon months as
the excess rainfall can provide ample chance to see spectacular views of the
waterfall and it’s also the best season to avoid the crowds.
During Monsoon, the average temperature is 22 degrees C
(71.6 Degrees F), with a maximum of 30 degrees C (86 Degrees F), during sunny
days and a minimum of -5 degrees C (23 Degrees F), in the morning and at night
for areas above 4000 meters.
Autumn – End of September / October / November
Similar to springtime, autumn in the Everest region is also
a crowded season, but it’s one of the best times to trek. While it lacks the
beauty of flowers, the clear blue sky can be seen, affording incredible views
from just about every angle.
The average temperature during the fall is 17 degrees C
(62.6 Degrees F), with a maximum temp of 20 degrees C (68 Degrees F), during
sunny days and a minimum of -15 degrees C (5 Degrees F), in the morning and at
night, for areas above 4000 meters altitude.
Winter- December/ January/ February
Winter start from mid December till mid February. People
still like to trek in this month due to fewer crowds. View is still good but
foggy so having extra days is highly recommended during this period.
The average temperature during the winter is 10 degrees C
(50 Degrees F), with a maximum temp of 17 degrees C (62.6 Degrees F), during
sunny days and a minimum of -20 degrees C (-4 Degrees F), in the morning and at
night, for areas above 4000 meters altitude.
