An epic 4-day journey through the UK's largest national park, enjoying the majestic views of the Cairngorm Mountains as you descend the River Spey in canoes.
The first day is all about familiarising yourselves with the canoe, and learning how to paddle efficiently without using much energy. The river gently meanders its way towards your campsite for the night at Boat of Balliefurth. At the campsite you can relax and enjoy the views, while your guide cooks up a tasty and substantial 3-course dinner.
After a nice hearty breakfast, you'll get your first taste of faster moving water as you paddle past Grantown-on-Spey. Using the skills you've learnt on the first day, you'll use this assist to make more progress through the Cairngorms.
After lunch, the scenery transitions to a largely forested stretch of the River Spey. This part is known for lots of wildlife, including leaping salmon. In the afternoon you'll then arrive at the next camp at Ballindalloch.
Today you'll head down through malt whisky country, as you paddle on past Craigellachie to one of our favourite wild-camping spots that many paddlers just pass by without noticing. After another great meal by the campfire for your last night of camping, you'll no doubt sleep well tonight!
With the river now easing off as it approaches the coastal plain, the nature of the river changes dramatically again. The paddling will be more relaxed as the day progresses, with you arriving at the Whale & Dolphin Conservation charity visitor centre, shop and cafe at the end of the trip. Once suitably refreshed you'll be taken to a dropping-off point of your choice: Inverness Airport, Aviemore Train/ Bus Station or Central Inverness by 5:00 PM at the latest.

You must be able to swim at least 25 meters for safety reasons (although you will of course still be given a life jacket). You don't need any canoing experience. If you do have some experience however, the guides can also teach you some more advance skills. A moderate level of fitness is required, as you'll be paddling for 4 days (river current assisted).
- Sleeping bag - Personal spending money for drinks and snacks - you may want to bring along some of your favourite snacks as well. - Warm clothing (see the kit list in "What should I bring)
You will be sharing a 2-person tent with a travel buddy (of the same gender). However, a single supplement of £20 can be paid for a tent of your own. If you would like this, simply put it down on your trip form.
- Experienced & qualified guide - Canoes, paddles & buoyancy aids - Waterproof storage, with a large 60 liters barrel per person - Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinners - Camping stoves, tea, coffee - Inflatable camping mats - Tents for 1 or 2 - Safety equipment
The food is all cooked up by your guide on this trip, as you'll be travelling through some remote areas. You're given generous portion. Vegan/vegitarian food can be provided - just make sure to specify this on your trip form.
We provide a shuttle in our modern, 9 seater minibus which will be at the end point for the group finishing the trip.
These trips have a maximum of 8 participants.
If meeting in Inverness, you need to arrive the day before. You can fly to Inverness Airport, get a train to Central Inverness or drive. The meeting point in Inverness will be Tesco Metro, Tomnahurich Street at 9:00 AM. You can pop into Tesco for any last-minute things you've forgotten if need be. There is long-stay car parking less than a 10-minute walk from the meeting point if required (Rose Street Multi-storey car park). If meeting us in Aviemore, we will meet you at the Old Bridge Inn, by the river. You can reach Aviemore directly by train or by car. You can't leave your car at the Old Bridge Inn, but we can advise you if need be.

You will be camping at a mixture of wild-campsites and designated campsites with generally basic facilities. For the wild camping spots, please note there will be a dug toilet - your guides will explain how to use this.
