Day 2: day two - Chalamain Gap, the Lairg Ghru and wild camp at the Corrour bothy

An early start so we can pack our bags for our big expedition! your guide will give you your camping food for the next two days. your lightweight food comes special packed to save weight. Its more than enough for two lunches, an evening and breakfast.

From the Sugarbowl car park we make our way through the beautiful Chalamain Gap, the Lairg Ghru opens up beneath us. This is Scotlands most famous hill pass, climbing to almost three thousand feet between two of the highest mountains in the land. The great broken cliffs of Lurcher's Crag wall the left side at first, and soon the walls of Sron na Lairig on the right become just as impressive. Eventualy Cairn toul comes into view and we descend into An Garbh Coire and our camp site for the evening.

Day 3: day three - Cairn Toul, Sgor an Lochain Uaine, Braeriach

From Corrour bothy, the great rocky boss of the Devil's Point looks formidable. To reach it, take the path that climbs up close by the Allt a 'Choire Odhair into the high corrie. The headwall is ascended by means of a zig-zag path. The climb ends very suddenly as the route emerges onto the wide, spacious bealach beyond. We will continue around the rim of the corrie, descending gently before a final steeper climb up a boulderfield to the summit ridge of Cairn Toul. This bouldery summit is the fourth highest in Britain - and the most remote of the four, with an elegant outline from many directions. After a brief descent the route climbs again, now on easier terrain, to reach Sgor an Lochain Uaine, The Angels Peak, and you will see how it gets its name. This peak offers some amazing views over the whole area.

a short descent and climb takes us to Carn na Criche where our narrow ridge turns into a truly vast plateau gently rising to the summit of Braeriach.

The views are superb, both over Caledonian pines in the glens and back across all the corries of the mountains you climbed this weekend and across the Lairig to Ben Macdui. We now descend the Sron na Lairig ridge into the Lairig Ghru and through the Chalamain Gap for the final time. Not long now until you get to the car then back into town for dinner and a dram! you earned it.
