2-day Trek to Toubkal in the Atlas Mountains

Climbing Mount Toubkal in two days is a difficult task. Enjoy our hiking in the Atlas Mountains, including a summit of Mt. Toubkal and a night in a refuge. During this two-day hike in the Moroccan High Atlas, you will ascend Jebel Toubkal, the Maghreb's highest point. Mount Toubkal Ascent is a two-day walk that takes you from Ait Mizain valley via the little settlements of Imlil, then across the surrounding wild and colorful high slopes on the final ascent to the peak. You will also enjoy lunch breaks in the wilderness and enjoying a range of Moroccan Berber food prepared by our professional cook, freshly and securely cooked every day.

Itinerary

Day 1: Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Toubkal Refuge

After an early breakfast at the hotel in Marrakech, our driver will pick you up and take you to the heart of Morocco’s High Atlas mountains, the trek starts from Imlil (1740m), a small Berber village located at 1740m above the sea level, at 67km on the south west of Marrakech, here you will meet the team who will accompany you during this amazing adventure, the driver will drop you off in the village, the muleteers will deal with your luggage, food & all other equipments that we usually provide for our clients, within half an hour you start the walk with an experienced mountain guide through the Berber villages following a mule track which will take you to the mountain hut via the shrine Sidi Chamhrouch (2500m) where you will have your picnic lunch prepared in advance by our cook, after lunch & a short break, continue towards the refuge (3200m), as the mules walks faster, the muleteers & cook, will pass over & will be waiting for you at the hut or camp, get a tasty mint tea upon arrival while you will enjoying the scenic Mountain surrounded the based camp. The hot shower is available to clean your body and be ready for the next day. Option: the night could be spent on the toubkal refuge.or on the tents but in summer time. 5 hours walking.

Day 2: Day 2: Toubkal refuge – Toubkal Summit – Imlil – Marrakech

Wake up early to escape the sun, eat breakfast at 5.00 a.m., and begin the ascending climb at 5.30 a.m., each of you may need to bring your own pack-lunch, step by step until you reach the point above the hut where you may take a brief rest with nuts, water, and oranges, etc. After 3h/4h of walking up the hill, you will be able to see all of the high Atlas mountains from the air, as well as stunning views of the green valleys and Berber villages. A 45-minute break on the summit will allow you to take pictures and enjoy the views before returning to the hut, where a varied lunch will be waiting for you. After lunch, you take the same path downhill to Imlil. 9 hours of walking The journey concludes with a transport return to Marrakech.

Hiring a certified local hiking guide to climb Mount Toubkal is now required. Everyone ascending Jbel Toubkal must register at a checkpoint at Aroumd Village, and you will not be able to proceed beyond that point unless accompanied by a local guide. Don't forget to bring your ID with you for registration.

Most persons in decent shape can readily climb Mount Toubkal. The icy winter season, on the other hand, necessitates a minimum of trekking expertise.

Temperatures in the winter can drop below freezing, reaching as low as -20 degrees Celsius (4 degrees Fahrenheit).

Trekking in Morocco is generally safe. Hiking alone, on the other hand, can be perilous. In terms of route selection and secure camping arrangements, you will want the assistance of a local licensed guide.

  • A comfortable pair of shoes is crucial for a successful walk. 
  • Before embarking on your adventure, be certain that all of your footwear has been thoroughly broken in. 
  • On your walk, do not break in your footwear. To wear in lodges, bring a tracksuit and a pair of track shoes.
